It’s been a challenging year.
While you might read hardship or frustration in that statement, we mean it in the most positive way. It’s been a year of change, as the improving economy has significantly impacted the people who need our services and the kinds of difficult they face in finding employment. It’s also been a year of creativity and innovation, one that’s led us to search for new ways to effectively serve the citizens of South Carolina.
This year, we’ve seen the entire Goodwill family—donors, shoppers, clients, associates, board members, partners and supporters—join together to make self-sufficiency possible for 11,149 people right here in the Upstate and Midlands of South Carolina. Yes, we’ve seen challenge, but more importantly, we’ve seen success. We’ve seen hope restored, confidence renewed and independence gained. And together, we’ve emerged with victories to celebrate.
Truly, our challenge is to help people overcome their own barriers to employment, and our success is to share in their joy when they finally hear the words, “You’re hired.” Every day, we have the opportunity to touch jobseekers’ lives in a small yet meaningful way, and there’s nothing better than watching the ripples of our work impact a life, a family, and a community. The achievements of the 2015/2016 Champions we’ve highlighted here continue to inspire us to do what we do. They remind us that no obstacle is insurmountable, and that overcoming adversity—no matter what—makes accomplishment even sweeter.
Thank you, Goodwill supporters, for being part of the team that made this year a turning point for so many people. And, thank you for helping make our mission a reality in this community. Because you met the challenge, more than 11,000 people this year were able to achieve employment, improve their outlook on life, and embrace hope.
